Dear Jeanne,
I grew up in Albany and have had great luck with the naturalization index
site. I left Albany in the early 70ies so it's a real boon when I find a
site like this one that allows me to research remotely. After I identified
potential records for ancestors on the site, I sent the Albany Hall of
Records a list of the reference numbers for the records and a check for $14.
They promptly sent me the Declarations of Intent and the later
Naturalization records. My mom was an O'Neil and grew up in Troy. I
recently obtained the Troy death certs of my gg grandparents, Michael and
Sarah nee Kelly O'Neil, both born in Ireland. I recently determined that
they immigrated to Boston in the late 1850ies and moved to Troy around 1866.
I've been trying to determine their counties of birth. It appears that
Naturalization Records may be my only hope. Are these available through
Renselaer County? If you have any suggestions for research in Troy, I would
appreciate it. Thanks, David O'Brien

Dear Listers:

Since I have had so many requests for this web address of the site I
mentioned in
my message about Morrisseys from Waterford, I figured I could save everyone
some time by posting it to the list. Its an searchable name index for
persons who filed Declarations of Intent and Naturalization in Albany
County, NY. Being from Troy, just across the river, I was lucky enough to
find several of my male relatives listed and when I mailed for copies of
the documents I recieved them within 3 days.
