Looking for James Welch from Waterford Co. He was born
around 1850 as was his wife, Bridget Roberts. I have
not been able to find them prior to their arrival in
the US.
After coming to the US around 1868, they settled in
Ishpeming, Marquette Co, Michigan, USA and finally in
Ironwood, Gogebic Co., Michigan.
On the 1870 and the 1880 US census he was listed as
being a miner. Is there a place in Waterford Co. where
a miner was most likely to have lived? Could someone
have lived in Waterford and worked in a Cork mine?
Any clues will be appreciated.
James & Bridget were Roman Catholic and I'm wondering
if there is any clearinghouse for RC parishes in
Waterford or if I need to contact every single parish
to find from whence they came.
Thanks for any help!
