I have CSA applications for the two WATSONs from Bastrop Co., Thomas D.
and William Henry, who are brothers.
WATSON, Thomas D. pension app #14631, Bastrop Co.
He says he was born in Gibson Co. TN.
Affiants Mrs. Martha D. Watson, age 73, residing at Red Rock TX. Met him
55 years ago in Washington Co. TX [1854]. He says he has been living in
TX 60 years (since 1849). He served in Capt. Matson's Co. and was
detailed as a teamster. CSA records give Moses G. Wilson, Capt., Mill
Creek Drill Co., Beat No. 1, Washington Co., 23 Brig, TM, enlisted 18
May 1861. R&F 51. Name appears as "Thos. Watson"
However, his application to the Confederate Veterans Home said served
Co. A, Sheppard's Reg, Sibley's Brigade.
Ed WEAVER, of Bastrop Co. TX, age 77, Red Rock TX. Met him 1862 at
Bastrop Co. TX.
In 1900 Bastrop Co., precinct 3, ED 6, sheet 9A, 141-141, Thomas is
shown as b Sep 1835.
On Nov 21, 1859 Washington Co. TX, he m Martha D. (HARRELL) BROWN, widow
of Horatio BROWN. She was b Mar 1836 TN, d 11 Mar 1922 in Austin, Travis
Co. TX. Thomas & Martha WATSON had only one child, Edward "Ed", b Aug
1868.
Died Aug 28, 1922, Austin, Travis Co. TX. Parents not listed. Buried
Texas State Cemetery.
WATSON, William Henry (called Henry, and appears as W.H. & H.W. in
various records), CSA pension # 11182 Bastrop, 5 Nov 1904
Gives name as William Henry Watson, age 64, residing Bastrop Co. in Otis
since 1857 (moved to Red Rock TX early 1917, per a handwritten note).
Served Co. B, 17th TX Inft., enlisted March 1862 to Spring of 1865.
Witnesses: D. TURNER and C. H. GILL. Appears as "H.W. Watson" in Conf.
mil. recs.
Living Confederate Veterans Home, Austin, TX at death.
J. M. WALKER, of Cleburne, TX was listed as "son".[SIL?]
Served Company B, 17th Texas Infantry, McCulloch's Regiment.
Brother was J. B. Watson, of Cedar Creek, Bastrop Co. TX
In the Confederate Home application, W. H. states he was born in TN in
1840 and was a farmer. Admitted June 22, 1917, died August 6, 1917.
Single at time of admission. Came to TX 1849.
Parents not listed on death certificate. Buried Texas State Cemetery.
Martha D. Watson was to be notified in case of death. [She was wife of
his brother Thomas D.]
1880 Bastrop Co., living with Thomas D. WATSON as "brother."
Died Austin, Travis Co. TX 6 Aug 1917 Cert. #23516. Parents not listed.
WATSON, James B., brother (presumably half-brother) of Thomas D. WATSON
& William Henry WATSON, was b June 1855 (1900 census Bastrop Co.). He is
living next door to Thomas WATSON in 1880 Bastrop Co. Listed with
father John T. WATSON in 1860 Washington Co. TX.
Bastrop Co deed v 35 p 255-256: J. T. Watson of the county of Llano and
J. B. Watson of the county of Bastrop sold to W. H. Watson all their
right to the estate of Thomas D. Watson, deceased, late of the City of
Petersburg Virginia. W. H. Watson is of Bastrop Co. [Probate/admin is
said not to appear in Bastrop Co. records.]
For anyone interested, I have a great deal more on the siblings and
families of these Watsons of Bastrop Co. Their father was John T.
WATSON, b 29 Sep 1814 (1812 per 1900 census) in VA, and d 4 Oct 1902
Bastrop co., buried Wolfenberger Cem., Bastrop Co.
