Hi Penny,

I am very much interested in your family because it may hold the key to
mine as well. I feel my Daniel Webb of RC may be related to James Webb of
Rutherford Co. (on 1790 census) and therefore to William and Pleasant too.
I like your theory that William and Pleasant are brothers, although William
is almost old enough to be his son? I have never felt strongly that
Pleasant was born in Ireland, although, I guess it is not impossible. I
know Larry Loiselle has held to this theory. Nonie Webb feels that all of
these Webbs come from William Micajah Webb of VA. I would think it would be
much easier to find a ship record for Pleasant than to trace him back to VA
where the other Webbs of this area seem to come from. My Daniel Webb b.
1764 was born in VA according to the 1850 census of Rutherford Co. I am not
certain when he entered Tryon/Rutherford Co. NC, but there is a petition of
Tryon Co. dated 1779 which has a Daniel Webb as well as a few of the other
early Webbs, ie. Robert.

I also find it interesting that Pleasant named a son William, which would
be in keeping with your theory. I also feel Rev. John Webb fits in here
somewhere. Have you studied his family? He has a John William Webb and a
James among other children. I find it so hard to believe that all of these
early Rutherford Co. Webbs are unrelated. At most there could only be two
seperate Webb lines. Do you feel the same? So far we have one Webb from
Ireland, one from Henrico Co./New Kent VA and one from Surry Co. NC (see
below). This just doesn't seem right to me.

I have been studying these early Tryon/RC Webbs:

James Webb (deeded land to Daniel and I believe was deeded land by William
Webb)
Daniel Webb (land deeded to him by James Webb in 1801)
Robert G. Webb (had son Elisha, Jeremiah and James; some feel he is son of
Robert Webb of Surry Co.)
William Webb Sr. (Son-in-law to Richard Coleman; had son Elias)
William Webb Jr.
Rev. John Webb (Had son John William, James, Elisha, Robert and Jeremiah;
some researchers feel he is from Henrico/New Kent VA)
Darling Webb
David Webb (had son named John)
Elisha Webb (those who feel he is 1/2 brother to Robert G. Webb)
Martin Webb (lived on land adjoining James Webb)
Pleasant Webb (Witness for Richard Coleman; had sons Elias and William)

Deeds:
John Webb and Jeriamiah Webb deeded land together to Moses Barns in 1795
James deeded land to John Webb Jr. in 1798
William deeded land to James Webb in 1798
James Webb deeded land to Daniel Webb in 1801
William Webb deeded land to Jonathan Webb in 1803
William Webb deeded land to Robert Webb in 1803
John Webb deeded land to John B. Webb in 1805
Joel Webb deeded land to Julias Webb in 1806

John, William, Robert and James all were buying up land from the State of
NC during the 1790's and earlier. I just find it hard to believe that they
are from different families. My Daniel Webb doesn't get any of his own land
until 1801 according to the deeds, yet he is head of household in the 1790
census. It is my theory, much like yours with Pleasant, that he was living
on another family members property, possibly James Webb.

There has to be an answer to this puzzle. I feel that all of us who are
looking for the origins of these Webbs could pool together and find the
answer. I am sorry I don't have more on Pleasant, but am always looking!

kind regards,

Eileen
