EARLY CHURCH RECORDS OF THE BIG REEDY AREA
Copied by FAY PARSLEY BROWN & BETTY PORTER TOMES
FORWARD
In 1881, The Green River Union Association of General Baptist was
Organized at the Welches Creek Union General Baptist Church. The
Churches which formed the Green River Union came from The Union
And Mt. Union Association of General Baptists.
In 1887, Welch's Creek Union and Independence (Slate Bank) joined
The Association as established churches.
The description of the building on page 26 of the old book and page
8,of this book is the same one Charles E. Whittle tallks about in his
"Flashlights in Floklore" page 119. When Independence (Slate Bank)
was built this old building was torn down to the foundation and the new
church built on the same foundation.
Our main objective in this endeavor is to preserve these old records
for future generations.
We have copied the spelling as it appears in the records.
Abbreviations used in this book: bp-baptized; ex-experience;
lt-letter; rl-relation.
