The Walnut Hill Cemetery was known by my Grandfather Robert M. Bird and
others before him as the "Old Bird Cemetery" even though there are not a
lot of Birds buried there.
The oldest stone is of Thomas Bird 1778-1845, who is my gg-gf.
The Walnut Hill Baptist Church's original property was supposedly
donated by a Bird according to church "records". Also, the site is the
same as or at least close to the site of the old Bird Schoolhouse which
was destroyed by the toronado of 1870.
The minutes of the Glasgow Methodist (as I remember) Church show
meetings held at the Bird Schoolhouse as early as 1827, (again from
memory.) My g-gm Mary Ann Campbell Bird was a member, as were some of
her sisters.
