Trying to find the origins of my WILLIAMS ancestors, who came from
Kentucky, perhaps Breckinridge Co. My great-great-grandfather Lewis
Williams was b. in Ky. circa 1814, and was an early lead miner in
southwest Wis.
I have reason to believe that he was a sibling of Williamses who went
to Edgar Co., Ill., in the 1830s. Reason WILLIAMS and Mary BAYSINGER
BENNETT are almost certainly siblings, but are listed in the 1850 Edgar
Co. census as having been born, respectively, in Jefferson and
Montgomery counties, Ky. Priscilla Baysinger HUNTER is a possible
sibling, but as born in Parke Co., Ind. (according to that census — in
1870, she is listed as born in Ky.). However, all have children b. in
Breckinridge Co.
I've been brick-walled on this family for far too long. (The problem
is made worse by the fact that Williams is one of the more common names
in the U.S.) The early censuses are unclear — there isn't a real clear
fit for a Williams with kids in that age range. Nor are there any clear
naming patterns.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
