Hi Philip,
According to my information (which of course may be incorrect), there is a
place called Longroyd near Sowerby Bridge. It does not appear in my "Where
is it in Yorkshire" pages for some reason (I can only assume that it
appeared after 1830), although Longroyd Bridge does have an entry. If you
go to the above mentioned pages (there's a link from the Genuki Yorkshire
page - URL below), on the main page you will find a link to "How to locate
a present day street or house". If you ignore the first bit and use the
post code HX6 1NX on the multimap site, this will take you to the area
involved.
BTW, I always thought "royd" meant "road" or "path" in the West Riding?
Best wishes,
Colin Hinson

Greetings to the list
I have recently obtained the Baptism record for my 3xGrandfather
Samuel Heap.
The baptism was at Steep Lane Baptist Church, Sowerby on
1/7/1780. The birth was registered by his mother Betty whose
residence was given as Longrood or possibly Longroyd.
I have checked both the current map and the reprint of the 1"
ordnance survey for the area but can find no reference.
Can anyone advise me of the location.
Many thanks.
Regards--
Philip Greenwood
