Hi Lynda

I have located Broad Royd on the 1840 ish 1 inch OS map reprint, but can't
find it named on a modern map. It is clear from the old map that Broad Royd
was on the road from Barkisland to Stainland at the point where it is called
Beestonley Lane and just south of the dwellings which are called on the
modern map Scar Hill and Elland Scholes. There are other dwellings marked
in just about the right spot on the modern map but they are unnamed, it
could very well be that Broad Royd is still there ( maybe renamed).

May I recommend the reprint of the 1840's OS 1 inch map ( sheet 21
Huddersfield & Manchester) to all listers as an invaluable tool for finding
locations in Calderdale. It is only about four pounds, published by David &
Charles, Brunel House, Newton Abbot, Devon, and available from the Society
of Genealogists and, I imagine, other good genealogy booksellers.

hope this helps................Andrew
