I have just joined the list and, following the list owner's instructions am taking this opportunity to introduce myself.

My first 18 years were spent in Pontefract, where my family still lives. I have been resident in France for the past fifteen years.

I have only started researching the family during the last year, but with quite encouraging results. The lines relevant to the West Riding are as follows:

GLEDHILL - line of descent from William, born 1850/51 in Greetland

ASTIN, Eliza, born 1851/2 in Brighouse (wife of the above)

ROWE, Mary Jane born abt 1880 (resident at the Junction Hotel, Storr Hill in 1908) daughter of Dennis

HANSON - my great-grandparents, Joseph and Annie (maiden name also HANSON !), both from Heighton, Liversedge - both had father's called George, one a joiner, one a miner.

If anybody is working on the same lines, please get in touch.

I do not have too many research aids - just the 1881 census on CD-ROM and the Vital Records Index. Am willing to do lookups however, but can't promise an immediate reply as I am often away from home on business).
