Subject: [WEST-L] Tribute to My Dad
Date: Thu, 26 Apr 2001 13:41:56 -0400
Hello, list.
I have enjoyed reading since I joined late last year, and am here making my
first contribution. I will follow later with my line of NC Wests with hopes of
connecting with someone, but I would like to take this time to pay tribute to my
Dad, John Webb West, Jr., who passed away last Tuesday, April 17, 2001 at the
age of 83, in Jacksonville, FL. Here is his obituary from the Waynesville, NC
(his hometown) paper (the Mountaineer):
John W. West Jr.
Waynesville native
Jacksonville, Fla. -- John Webb West, Jr., 83, of Jacksonville, Fla., died
Tuesday, April 17, 2001, at the Baptist Medical Center in Jacksonville.
A native of Waynesville, he was the son of the late John Webb Sr. and Lovell
Montez Davis West. He had lived in Miami and made Jacksonville his home for the
past 18 years. He retired from the Army Corps of Engineers with 42 years of
service. He was of the Methodist faith and was active in the United Methodist
Men. He had served as church organist in Waynesville.
Surviving are his wife of 44 years, Marion R. West; three sons, Peter, Robert
and Gerald West; three daughters, Rosina Stevenson, Jeanie Leary and Lovell
West-Aventin; and three grandchildren.
My Dad was a great man, not in fame and fortune, but in family, love, and faith.
He loved working on the family genealogy, and sparked my interest. I will miss
him greatly.
Bob (Robert Charles) West
