I have returned from my trip to Wexford and Ireland. I must have a
Murphy in my family because if it could go wrong it did. Due to two
different airline problems, my 3 days in Wexford became one. But it was
quite a day. This is a cute story so if you do not like cute stories,
delete now. A man in Wexford that Celestine introduced me to has been
helping me find my Carbery side. I have been there 3 times and met the
Stafford cousins but I was not into genealogy and the Carbery's were
never mentioned. I did not call my contact since my stay was so short
but went to the Wexford library to see the Ballyculane parish records.
15 minutes into the film a man sat next to me and looked at the screen,
He asked if I was Joan. He took me to Clongeen where a cousin O'Connor
owns a pub. I asked if she knew a Stafford family that lived quite close
and she did but did not know they were related. She locked the pub and
off we went to the 2 cemeteries where some family members were buried
and showed me other lines Donohoe, Gill, McGrath, Banville that married
into the family.
We then went to another pub Carbery's that was one block from my
grandfather's house. There was a young girl working there. It was a
Stafford (I was at her 11th birthday party) I introduced her to her
Irish cousin and told her she was related to the owner of the pub. She
did not know this. We went to another O'Connor home to meet the family
and the 9 year old dressed in her finest and did some Irish dancing for
us. She had many trophies. I never got back to the microfilm, my big
reason for going, but found out so much more. People are more exciting
then names and dates. Sorry this was so long. My family gets a glazed
look when I talk about Genealogy but thought you would understand. Joan
