Dear listers

Michael Downes of Adamstown married Catherine (Kate) Maher in USA in 1854.
She died after the birth of their daughter in 1856 and he returned to
Ireland.

It was always said that Kate was a member of the Mahers of Turtulla and
Ballinkeele.

Reading the chapter on the Maher family in Art Kavanagh and Rory Murphys
book "Wexford Gentry" the only possibility seems to be the following:

John Maher and his wife Catherine Lanigan had three sons:

Nicholas
Matthias
Gilbert and his wife a Burke of Summer hill had a son:

John and his wife Mary Byrne of Bollibeg had two daughters

Margaret married Thomas Maher of Cashel
?

Unfortunately the only date given is that Gilberts wife died in 1822.

Does anyone know any more about this family. I am particularly interested
in the unnamed daughter although the elder daughter having married a Maher
could also have had a daughter called Catherine.

Michael Downes was the son of Sylvester Downes. Michael married again back
in Co Wexford and died in 1901 in Houselands. Any help in tracing the
Downes line would also be appreciated.

Best wishes
Anne
