I am researching William Heslit WHITAKER, who was born in the Danville PA
area ca 1806. His father reportedly was William WHITAKER, a tailor. William
Heslit married Mary Deborah SKAATS in New Orleans in 1829 and apparently
remained there until the early 1840s, when the family moved to Mobile AL.
He apparently became a physician there ca 1844, and died there in 1870.

I have also received some information indicating that either William may
have had other relatives (cousins or brothers) that also moved south. I
would like to confirm whether some of these went to New Orleans. There
appears to be another Whitaker line there during the same era, some of whom
have almost identical names to some of my relatives.

Is anyone on the list researching these Whitakers?
