Good morning, Susan,
I am now in B'ham doing the grandfather bit.
You and I have an EM dated May 20, 2002 from Jim Drew that goes into the
Robert question, and Jim's ideas on this subject. Since there is a
question about who Robert is or where he came from, let me share the
background on the 1904 notebook I have.
Twenty-five years ago I found this book in belongings of my
great-grandfather, K.D.S.Whitaker. The book had a date 1904, the same
year that his father, King David, died.
Then, time did not permit me getting into my genealogy but I knew of a
person who was working this line. I sent her a copy and she apparently
sent a copy to Hester Jackson. I didn't know she existed or that this
had happened until about two years ago. Mrs. Jackson undoubtedly felt
there was a connection and included it in her book. When she connected
the dots she tied Jane Bannister Parker into the picture. I've talked
to Dan Jackson about this and he's inclined to leave things as they are
until he gets better information. I agree with his thinking.
If you go back and read those notes again you will find that Jane Parker
was not mentioned but a person named Judy Caudle was.
Susan, since I am not good at research as many are I do not know how
significant this is. I know that all the names on this 1904 list have
proved out. Possibly there is a clue here. I know all the rocks are
being looked under. I consider this another rock.
Now the question of why was a poor old dirt farmer (K.D.S.W.) back a
hundred years ago interested in his genealogy? The answer apparently
has to do with an original letter dated 1908 and in my possession. This
four page letter is from a lawyer in Philadelphia to K.D.S.W. and is a
status report on a claim being filed against the Bank of England by the
Whitaker heirs to this fortune. If you are not aware of this situation
I can send you what I have on it. So... his interest in genealogy had
to do with MONEY. Also he had the advantage of being able to glean
information from his father and other relatives, including his
grandfather, Jordan, the grandson of Robert and the son of Jonathan(I).
K.D.S.W. was twenty-four when his grandfather, Jordan died in 1886 in
Surry County, N.C. My point here, Susan, is that K.D.S.W. had good
opportunity to get it right.
In my on genealogy report I have all the disclaimers regarding Robert
and those of that time period because things are so fuzzy. If you ever
solve some of this I hope you share it with me. I will be glad to share
my genealogy report with you or anyone else who might be interested in
this line.
I'm just another Whitaker trying to get it right.
