Dear Marion,
Do you know of a Marion Whitney of Philadelphia, NY (near Watertown, NY)?
She would have been born in the first half of the 1800's. (Her brother
was an imperfect speller, so she may have been Marian rather than the
"Sister Marion" he clearly penned.) She later became Mrs. Marion Taggert
(possibly Laggert?) in Philadelphia, NY.
She was the daughter of Erastus Whitney (b. 1797) and Betsy Chadwick,
Their children I know of were Marion, Seymour (b. ca. 1829), George, Sell,
Mariah, and Duane. Seymour Whitney moved to Georgia and founded the S. M.
Whitney Cotton Company. One son was killed in the civil war (not
George, Seymour, or Sell). Frank and another of Seymour's sons lived in
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, around 1925.
(Mason (b. 12/16/1765), the father of Erastus, was born in MA of the John
and Elinor line and moved to Philadelphia, NY (not PA).)
Others, if you have links to or information about this Mason Whitney and
his other descendants, please let me know. Thanks, Barry
