In case it might help someone tie up a loose end, or if someone is keeping
an absolutely complete Whitney database(?) ....
I found a death record of Major Walter Isaac Whitney who died September 4,
1918, in Augusta, GA, at the age of 69 (no birth date is given, but Oct.
22 is in parentheses, so I assume he either would have been 69 on Oct 22
or had turned 69 the previous Oct 22). He was in the Augusta Arsenal
Medical Reserve Corps and is buried at Arlington National Cemetery. He
was born in Maine, son of D.K. and his mother's maiden name was also D.K.
(or maybe they didn't know and that is what D. K. stands for (?)). It's
on the Elliot Funeral home (Augusta, GA) microfilm record Folio A, page
20. He had lived in Augusta for 6 years and his widow was Mrs. Harriet L.
Whitney. Apparently they had no offspring. I have no indication that he
was connected with the old Augusta GA Whitney family.
