Dear Allan,
I found this in "History of Bridgton, Maine" published in 1974 by the
Bridgton Historical Society:

Benjamin Whitney I(1785-1874), married in 1806, Annie Bangs(1786-1870) of
Buxton. Settled in the north part of Bridgton, near the Sweden line. They
raised 10 children(all names not listed) The fourth, Mehitable married
James Stevens. The seventh, Benjamin II (1820-1892) married Susan Bennett
of Freedom, NH who came to teach in the District #8 school (Called "The
Whitney District"). They had 4 daughters and one son. Austin m. Clara
Ingalls. Youngest child, Susan m. Carroll Hilton. Old maps show a Whitney
Family burying ground and the graves where later removed to the Hazen
Cemetery. Very interesting story! Jan
