Dear Jo Hogle,
On 10/26, you forwarded notes on Whitneys from th Minnesota
Genealogical Journal and can identify some entries as follows:
Vol.#2 page 139 reference to marriage performed by E.H.Whitney 4/1870.
This is Rev. Ephraim Hildreth Whitney,(Pierce #4796) a Methodist minister,
oldest son of Olive (Parlin) and William Whitney(Samuel, Abner, John,
Isaiah, Thomas, John) b. 30 Dec. 1813, Freeman,ME. He m. 25 July, 1844,
Jane H.Hunt at East Branch, ME. After the death of his father he went to
Meeker County MN with his mother, bothers Orrin, Albion P., Benjamin P. and
sister Julia Averil(Joseph). When the others went on to Sonoma Co. CA, he,
Orrin and Julia remained in or near Kingston,MN. I have further notes on
this family if anyone is interested. [I would be interested if you have
any info on brother Eleazer P. who went to Colorado, was married and had
two daughter.]
Vol.#2 page 106 Minnesota Pioneer Vol III No 49, Thurs 25 March,1852:
"Died, at St Paul, on Monday the 22nd instant Mr. Joel Whitney, late of
Maine,aged about 65Yrs.
Yes this is Joel E. Whitney b. 7 May,1787, Gorham, ME s/o Micah and Hannah
(Cobb)Whitney. He had several children (by two wives),some of whom went to
St Paul MN. There is a Bio of him in "A Genealogical History of Freeman,
Maine 1796-1938 by George A.and F.Janet Thompson, Heritage Books, Inc.
Volume three.
Volume #8 page 768.
Augusta E. Whitney of Meeker Co married 17 Oct.1867 Jannette Deputy,
Witness:Winfield Whitney.
Refer to Whitneys above mentioned, these are the two sons of Orrin and
Hannah (Fairbanks) Whitney. Pierce spells the name Augustus and his wife as
Nettie Depity, but we know that he made errors.
Interested in any and all data you have on any Whitneys in MN.
Thanks.Cheers! Jan
