Dear WRG,
I am hoping that someone might be able to help me with something. I
posted earlier tonight regarding some information from the library in
Buffalo. Along with the information provided are 3 handwritten sheets
listing five generations of our Whitneys.
Specifically they are
John 1
Benjamin 2
Nathaniel 3
Nathaniel 4
Moses 5
The information listed is not new or interesting in itself. I believe
that someone was copying from Pierce. What caught my eye however is
the connection to the Whitneys in Maine. The Nathaniel 3 above is
shown to be born in York, Maine. My line of Whitneys also comes down
from Benjamin 2. If I skip down my line 3 generations (Jonathan 3,
Jonathan 4, Jonathan 5) I see that my Capt Jonathan and wife Esther
Parkhurst came to NY from Mass in 1798.
So here is the question. I see that Benjamin 2 must have traveled and
settled up in Maine. Were all of his children born there? Since
John-1 and Benjamin-2 were in Mass and then 3 generations later they
were in Mass.....I have always assumed they never left Mass.
Obviously I was wrong. The earliest record that I have seen on Robt
Ward's page is for Jonathan 4 and wife Lydia Jones in Mass.
This could explain that. Perhaps I should be looking in the Maine
VRs. Has anyone dealt with this situation before?
So my que
