Dear Diane,
I saw your inquirey regarding Ezra Whitney on Jackson site. You might find
his obit in the Jackson Citizen Patriot. It is on microfilm at Jackson
Library on Michigan Ave. or get it through inter-loan through your local
library at no charge.
There is one cemetery in Spring Arbor named the Spring Arbor Cemetery right in
town. Also one on Reynolds Rd which is south east of Spring Arbor named the
Reynolds or [Crouch] Cemetery. [Section 26 Spring Arbor Twp.]
Also found following info regarding other Whitney's in book written about
Rives Twp. called "The Cornerstone Township" on pg. 236. Book available at
Jackson Library.
Obadiah Whitney was son of Captain Whitney. He was B. in New York. In 1844
he came to MI and bought land in Rives Twp., Section 2. He had five children:
Lorenzo Dow, George, a Civil War Veteran, Mary, who married Wm. J. Austin,
Electra J. who married Philo B. Abbey, and Sally P. who married Theodore N.
Peck.
Lorenzo Dow Whitney married Maria Barnes in 1853. She died the following year
and his second wife was Mary A. Craddock. He died Dec. 1, 1901 at the age of
72. His second wife died in 1891 at the age of 52. They had five children:
Frank, B.Aug. 11, 1859; Chas. died at age two and one-half yrs; Homer L., a
farmer and also taught school many yrs; Jennie E. married Merritt Abbey; and
Mary N. married Milner Barber.
Frank Whitney married Miss Rosa M. Stitt, daughter of John Stitt on Oct. 11,
1887. They had no children. He lived on his farm on Section 3 on Lansing
Ave. until he retired and moved to Leslie.
Hope this is of some help in your search. Know how I feel when I put an
inquirey on-line. Good luck!
