Henry E. Whitney

Henry E. Whitney, 72, of 30 Hale St., Barre, died Monday morning in
Central Vermont Hospital, Berlin, after having been a patient there
since Thursday.

He was born in Hermon, Maine, January 16, 1903, son of Perley and Lizzie
(Willey) Whitney. He was a 1921 graduate of Bangor (Maine) High School,
and also attended Bliss Business College in Bangor.

For more than 44 years, he was employed by Swift & Co., being bookkeeper
in Bangor and Lewiston, Maine, and manager in Montpelier five years. He
retired in 1968.

On Jan. 9, 1923 he married Dorothy DeBeck.

They lived in Maine until 1937 when they moved to Montpelier. He was a
member of the Montpelier City Council from 1950 to 1954.

The couple moved to Barre in 1954. He was a member of the East Barre
Congregational Church, was a former deacon there and held other offices
in the church.

Besides his widow, he leaves a son, Henry E. Whitney Jr., Montpelier, a
daughter, Mrs. Hartland (Phyllis) Bancroft, East Montpelier, 13
grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday at 1:30 PM in the Whitcomb
Funeral Home, 102 Washington Street, Barre, where friends may call
Tuesday from 7 to 9:00 PM.

Burial will be in Hope Cemetery.
