Dear Joni:

Are you certain about the place of birth? I really don't know enough about
the social history of the Illinois Territory, and all of my reference books
are still packed up, but based on my general knowledge I can't help but
wonder how many people had settled in "Illinois" by 1780/90. I'm sure there
may have been some, but it seems a bit early for local political
organizations like towns and so forth to have been organized.

Perhaps your answer lies in the elusive Whitneys who by this time had
migrated from New England to either western New York, Pennsylvania or the
Ohio territory. I'm sure that someone else in the WRG may be in a better
position than I to come up with a better idea. In the meantime, good luck
