Subject: [WHITNEY-L] RE: Posting info on living Whitneys
Date: Fri, 24 Sep 1999 14:11:16 EDT
I have been on this list for a while and I must admit that the topics are
interesting, especially this one.
I have posted my genealogy research info on my Corbitt ancestors and for
those that are still alive, I have only listed their names, no dates nor
places. There are a few that were concerned about their names being posted,
so I solved that by posting only the given names and not the surnames.
I haven't posted my lost Whitneys in a while, so here goes. Is there anyone
who is researching the Whitneys in Virginia? My Whitneys owned a sloop named
the Katring that sailed from Bermuda. They owned land in Isle of Wight Co.,
Va. and North Carolina. Would love to communicate with anyone researching
Joshua Whitney who married Martha (unknown). This Joshua was a mariner who
owned the ship Ketring and came to Isle of Wight from Bermuda. He bought
land in Isle of Wight Co., Va. in 1721. He sold this land in 1734. He also
bought 150 acres in Isle of Wight in 1725 from Christopher Reynolds. In his
will he left this land to be sold for the benefit of his children. His will
was recorded in both Isle of Wight and North Carolina. He names the
following in his will: wife Martha; son David; son Jeremiah; son Samuel;
daughter Ketring; son Joseph; daughter Ruth; son Francis. His sons David and
Jeremiah were executors.
Anyone recognize these folks?
Pat Corbitt Johns, in Va.
