Wow - how VERY cool!

I did not expect for this to tie into my Whitney's (which are on my
mother's side), but Samuel D. Whitney is my Gr-Gr-Great Grandfather, and
the L.H. Whitney mentioned in the "births" section is Lorenzo Henry
Whitney, my Gr-Great Grandfather (Samuel to Lorenzo to Zada to Barbara
Shumway to Linda Braskat to me!).

Something I have wanted to share witht the group for a while: My mother has
an OLD portrait of a man that she thought was Lorenzo. However we have come
to the conclusion that it is not Lorenzo for the following reasons: A. we
have a photo which is labelled as being Lorenzo, which looks nothing like
the portrait (other than a familial resemblance), and B. what can be seen
of the outfit the man is wearing is from the 1860's (close to when Lorenzo
was born, and historical costuming is a hobby of mine). We now think it
just MIGHT be a portrait of Samuel D. Whitney (or even his father). The man
could be about the right age. It's hard to tell, because it looks like a
hand retouched fuzzy photograph. The other cool thing about this portrait
is it looks like it's still in the original frame. I'm hoping to be able to
get it from my mother (it's in storage) so that I can scan it.

I also have a few pictures of some of my Whitney's: one of Lorenzo and Wren
(one of his daughters when she was very small), and a bunch of Zada.

Thanks for a little more information Ken! So, do you have a direct
connection to any of the Whitney's outlined in your message? It would be
neat to find another slightly closer cousin!

OK - enough babbling for now!

WRG,
I'm glad that the group is interested in posting family Bible
records. I do not have a scanner, so it will take awhile to transcribe the
records of my g-g-grandmother, Dorcas Drury Whitney. However, I'll pass on
the following record, which I recently obtained from PERSI. It is not the
family record I was hoping for, but may be of help to someone.
