Hello everyone,
I know this is a long shot, but while looking in the archives I saw a
message from Patricia Whitney Jones. She offered to share her
information on marriages in California (and other states) . Patricia
are you still out there? I have John Carlton Whitney in my line,
born March 16, 1845 in Lisbon Maine. His parents were John Whitney
and Almira Turner. After John Carlton's first wife died before 1880
(her name was Hattie Abbott) , he went out west for a time and worked as
a deputy sheriff in California. Family lore says he was in the San
Francisco area, but I cannot find proof of it. I do have a post card
he sent from San Rafael, Ca. to his brother in Malden, Mass. I would
like to know if John Carlton Whitney married in California. I know
that he returned east and married Ella Peaslee in 1886, so his second
marriage (if there was one in California) would have been sometime
between 1880 and 1886. Can you help me at all with this?
Or can any of the cousins give me a suggestion as to where else to
look. I'm on the east coast and don't plan a trip out west for a
while.
