Dear Shawn:

To try to answer your question about available information about Maryland
Whitneys, it depends a little on the time frame one is trying to work in. I
have discovered, for example, that in 1850 the only two places Whitneys are
to be found is in Baltimore and Somerset Counties. Since I now live in
Somerset county, I am starting to try and develop a resource for these
families. There is an excellent research library connected to Salisbury
State University, but it has an annual membership fee, and they run from Jan.
1 to Dec 31. However, I have been told that if I join in November my
membership will extend through the next year. So, I paid the daily fee and
spent about three hours working on the early Whitneys, and will continue as
soon as I can get in on the annual fee.

If your friend would like to write to me directly, with some information with
which I could begin to look for specifics, I will try to help him/her.

Happy Hunting!

Allan E. Green
