Dear Barbara: I am sending a copy of this message to our Whitney
Research Group, since others there may be interested in it. I believe
your Jonathon WHITNEY is a descendant of John and ElinorWhitney of
Watertown as follows:

Jonathan-7 Whitney (Phineas-6, Jonathan-5, Jonathan-4, Richard-3,
Richard-2, John-1)

Phineas (Phinehas)-6 Whitney was born in Harvard, Mass. on 3 Jul 1747;
m. Keziah FARNSWORTH 31 Oct 1765; and died 21 May 1830 in Norway, Oxford
County, Maine.

according to a note written to my grandfather by Jonathon's widow, Mary
Gates Whitney, who was born in Gorham, Maine. She and Jonathon wer
married 16 August 1798 in Bridgetown, Maine. He was born 15 December
1774. He served in the Ohio militia in the war of 1812 but not long
enough to receive a pension as the war ended shortly after he enlisted.
If you have any information on my 3rd great grandfather I would be
greatly indebted to you. Thank you very much. Sincerely, Barbara Cadot

Pierce's Whitney Genealogy p. 187 only lists one child of Phinehas and
Keziah Farnsworth, (See
http://www.whitneygen.org/archives/extracts/pierce/p186-190.htm#P1091 )
but other researchers have found more children listed in other sources.
See the following pages for lists of their children, including your
Jonathan:

Barbara, I would love to have more information on Jonathan and Mary
(GATES) Whitney -- especially their children and grandchildren! Can you
send me a Gedcom file?
