The line is broken. Current research indicates that *PROBABLY* John-1
WHITNEY of
Watertown was son of Thomas and Mary (BRAY) WHITNEY of Westminster,
London. The
parents of this Thomas WHITNEY are currently *UNKNOWN*. He was *DEFINITELY
NOT* the
Thomas WHITNEY, son of Robert WHITNEY, third son of Sir Robert
WHITNEY. The latter
Thomas WHITNEY was too young to be the Westminster man. For details, see

While there remains some hope that John-1 WHITNEY may eventually be
connected to one
of the gentry families of the name, such a connection is not now known.
