Dear Helen:
I was pleased to see your progress on your Whitney line. Did you
establish a connection between George Sands Whitney and the family that
Delilah Garett lived with in 1850 (the Solomon Eli Whitney family from South
Glen Falls, N.Y.)?
Solomon had a brother in Vermont named George F. Whitney b. 25 June
1815 who could be George Sands Whitney's father. Solomon named one of his
sons George H. Whitney.

Dear Ray,
Read with interest your letter on the Whitney list. The name Harvey
James Whitney struck a chord in my search for my Whitney ancestors.
My father was Harvey James Shaver (twin) b.1898-----his parents were,
Sarah Jane Whitney b. 1875 and Junius Shaver. Sarah Jane was the
daughter of George Sands Whitney b.1838 & Delilah Gavett and g.
daughter of Jacob Whitney b. between 1790 and early 1800's and Nellie
Freeman. The later, Jacob and Nellie perished in a house fire 8/9/1861.
Any records lost, of course. Children left home early working for board
and living with other families in the area.
Family hearsay is that 3 Whitney brothers came to Connecticut from
England and eventually went their separate paths. Hearsay also tells
that 2 were Officers in the War (what war is unknown) but I would say it
must have been the Revolutionary War (considering the date of birth of my
Jacob).
All these people lived in Delaware County, New York. Several family
members have been searching several years for the parents of Jacob
Whitney without success.
Your g.grandfather, Daniel James Whitney would have been same generation
as the children of my g.g.grandfather, Jacob Whitney. Jacob's 13
children were born between 1824-1845.and most ages were derived from
census records.
The roots for Nellie Freeman have been discovered via an Ulster County,
N.Y. probated Will.---so possibly, my Jacob was in Ulster County before
going to Delware Co., N.Y. (The counties do adjoin)
