An open message to JO:
As you suspected, the arrangement for the meals is all or
nothing. It is just too complicated to break the meal plan
apart and allow people to purchase only a meal or two.
Besides, part of the arrangement with the Sheraton is that we
will spend a minimum of $1000 on food and drink.
Several WRGers have asked about the possibility of the meals
being available separately, but it just won't work. For those
bringing small children this especially seems to be a problem.
To the Whitney Research Group Members:
Do the rest of you think this is something we should
rethink? From my many discussions with the Sheraton, I doubt
there is any other way to make the meals work with them,
but we could look for another place. (I hate to even think of
it)
Perhaps I can't see the forest for the trees, but what we
need to do to get the rooms for $84 and the use of the
Ballroom and Colonial Room is to guarantee a minimum of $1000 in
food and drinks for the Friday night thru Sunday noon time.
The Sheraton said the best way to do this is to have the meal
plan that I sent out on the WhitneyL roots web list about a week
ago. The price for children age 12 or under is about $20
less than the adult plan, and the menu is kid friendly.
There have been 6 adults respond indicating that they would
like to see children allowed to eat separately, being able to
choose freely from the menu. That makes 6 adults and about 7
children. If none of these people come, I estimate that we
would still have 40-50 people at the Reunion, but of course
Lyn and I want to see as many attending as possible. I personally
want to do all we can to make children feel welcomed. Some
children are fussy about food and it is too bad for parents to
have to pay for something the kids won't eat.
All other responses regarding the meals have been very positive.
Should we leave this as is, or try a change?
thanks, Carolyn Whitney Branagan
