Hello Jan,
William Peace Whitney was a blacksmith in Phillips, Somerset Co., Maine,
as was his father, Micah. Micah died in Phillips, but William moved his
family to the mid-west. This deed would be very interesting, as it has been
previously thought that William arrived in Phillips about 1815. This deed
apparently may place him there as early as 1811, which is the year his
father, Micah, is thought to have arrived in Phillips. You can learn more
about William and his father Micah at my web page, which is located at
(http://kenwhitney.tripod.com/whitneygenealogy). Just click on Micah (1) at
the top of the page. William is descendant number 59. If you are satisfied
that this is the correct William Whitney, I would like to take advantage of
your offer of the deed. Micah Whitney was my third-great-grandfather.
