283. Margaret7 Burbank (Jesse S.6(144), John5, Nathan4, Eleazer3, Caleb2,
John1) born in Freeman, Maine, April 14, 1816; died Aug. 26, 1904; married,
first, Oct. 23, 1833, Joseph Foster, teacher, divinity student and farmer (he
gave up his studies to care for parents; died(???)); married, second, Aug.
10, 1847, Christopher Orr, farmer, and a widower with six children (he was of
Scotch descent, and his ancestors settled on Orr's Island on the coast of
Maine; died(???)); married, third, April 6, 1871, Jonas Green, live stock
dealer. During the life of her first husband she lived in New Portland and
Dover, Maine. During the life of the second husband she lived in Phillips,
Maine. During the life of her third husband she

lived in Wilton, Maine. After the death of Mr. Green she made her home with
her daughter, Mary Whitney, but worked the larger part of the time for a
number of years as seamstress, going from family to family as her service was
required. She was a woman of large physique, very capable, and did a vast
amount of work during her long and useful life. She was the mother of twelve
children. At the time of her death she had thirty-one grandchildren,
seventeen great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.

viii Mary B. Orr, b. in Phillips, Maine, Mar. 17, 1850; d. June
22, 1905; m. Oct. 29, 1872, Edmund W. Whitney, farmer,
and Civil War veteran, and lived on a farm in Strong,
Maine, until after the death of her husband, then moved
to Farmington, Maine.
Children born in Strong, Maine:
1 Grace M. Whitney, b. Apr. 2, 1876; d. Mar. 1, 1881.
2 Carroll E. Whitney, b. Sept. 26, 1884; m. Mar. 26,
1912, Ina Harris of Salem, Maine. He is a farmer
and merchant, and lives at Farmington, Maine.

ii Barbara E. Whitney, b. Nov. 28, 1920.

If this is the Edmund W. that married Mary Orr listed above maybe his younger
sister Phebe born abt. 1841/42 could be the Phoebe Whitney that married
Christoper Orr, Jr.
