Hello Janet,

Thank you for your interest in this puzzle. John Whitney was in Co. H &
K of the 85th New York Volunteer Infantry. His brother Mendel (Mentel?) was
probably older, but I do not know what unit he served in. When I have time,
I'll check and see if I can find a soldier with a semblence of this name
with a service record. Anyway, it would be Mendel who would have possibly
died at Andersonville.
