Good Afternoon Group,

I am finding this mornings post very interesting even though it is not
my direct line. I have spent some time in the Pierce book looking up all
the Richard's with a George father. I think I have found them...... On
page 294 #2173 is George Whitney (Israel, Elisha, Daniel, Benjamin,
John, John) b. Nov.1, 1832 m. June 18, 1862, Mary Elizabeth Rea; b. Sept
27, 1840; d. May 23, 1864; m.2d Dec. 29,1880, Elizabeth Whitney. He was
born in Lowell and his early life was as a clerk in an E. India
merchant's office in Boston, and later he went to Calcutta, where he was
six or seven years a partner of Whitney Bros. & Co., a firm still doing
business there, transacted by his brothers. Of later years he has been
president of the National Union Bank, Boston, and before that, president
of the North National Bank, and before he went to Calcutta he was a
member of the firm of Lombard, Whitney & Co., East India merchants. Res.
Boston, Mass, Nat'l Union Bank,40 State St. #4431 Elinor, b. Feb 20,1882
#4432 George, b. Oct. 9, 1885 #4433 Richard, b. Aug 1, 1888

Dear Whitney Research Group,

I received an e-mail message from the publishers of a new book
mentioning Richard WHITNEY (1888-1974), the stock market embezzler. It
is actually about Charles TUTTLE, the lawyer who defended him in 1938.
They allege that descendants would be gratified by the information in
this book. They are looking for three things:
(1) A picture of him.
(2) Living relatives to contact.
(3) Whether anyone at the Whitney Family Reunion would like to see a
copy. Send your responses to Joseph Sinnott, <>.

All I know is that his father was a certain George WHITNEY, a banker of
Boston, MA.

Regards,

Robert
