Subject: [WHITNEY-L] Trying to Find Nathan Whitney, born 1838, W.Va

I am new at this so I hope I am asking this the correct way. I am trying to
track down info on my paternal great-grandfather, NATHAN WHITNEY, believed to
have been born in 1838 in W. Va. He married MARTHA ELLEN DURHAM in Stanton,
KS (?) and had 9 children and built a home near Peoria, Franklin County,
Kansas. His father was NATHAN WHITNEY (NATHAN, DAVID, NATHAN, NATHANIEL,
BENJAMIN, JOHN, THOMAS, ROBERT, ROBERT, EUSTACE DE WHITNEY) born about 1798
in Maine and died 1851 in Monroe, OH. He married MARY ANN HENSEL.
I have written papers from my great aunt (deceased) that are about 40 years
old, giving lots of info about all these long ago ancestors. Some of the
dates given are off but interesting info. She gives several references to
Indian heritage, that the Nathans (there are several) married into Indian
tribes but I don't know which tribes. Supposedly there was paperwork showing
this several generations ago but was destroyed. How can I find any of those
documents? If they can't be found is there anyway to do DNA testing to show
Indian ancestry?
Thanks for any help you can give me. Jinny Parks
