Hello,

I am new to the group, so a little introduction is in order.

I was fortunate enough to marry into the Whitney family, and am now
applying my genealogy hobby to my husband's line. I have been unable
to connect to the lines listed on the WRG site so far.

My husband's grandfather was Charles Orlando WHITNEY, b. 1 Sep 1903 in
Somerville, Middlesex Co, MA, d. 5 Dec 1988 in Harrison, AR.

His father was Charles Francis WHITNEY, b. 20 Aug 1866 in St. Louis,
MO. Charles F. married Mary Elizabeth CLARK, and eventually settled in
Miami, FL.

I am having a hard time locating Charles Francis as a child in St.
Louis. Family lore has his mother as a full-blooded Indian from
Canada. His father also owned a bank in St. Louis. After the bank
failed, father and son moved to Vancouver, and Charles' mom went back
to her tribe.

I have a 1920 census record showing Charles F. as an adult in
Massachusetts, but the birth date doesn't match the one handed down
through the family. It is almost certainly the right man, though, as
the wife's name matches, and a Charles O. with the correct age is
listed as a child on the record.

I also have a Charles F. Whitney in the 1880 census in St. Louis, but I
am uncertain as to whether it is the correct person. The age does not
match (but *does* match the age on the 1920 census record), and the
woman listed in the record is listed as being born in Vermont, as are
her parents.

So, my search goes on - I'd appreciate any advice.

Thanks,

Stacy
