Hi WRG
I ask your indulgence as I seek some advice on what to do with my father's
baptismal certificate. We found it rolled up inside a cardboard tube along
with the marriage certificates for my grandparents and my great
grandparents. The marriage certificates are small and I have weighted them
to straighten them so I can preserve them in archive files. But the
baptismal certificate is very large - about 13X20. It is on very heavy
paper which adds to the difficulty. I am uncertain how I will store it
after I get it straightened, but I do believe that straightening it is
important.
Does anyone have any suggestions for preserving such a large document?
Unfortunately displaying it is out of the question. My grandmother defaced
it by changing my father's name (a long story) and used an eraser before
writing over it. My dad almost shot her! Although he is no longer aware, I
would never dishonor him by displaying something that gave him so much
personal pain. I realize because it has been defaced it is no longer a true
genealogical document, but it has family value nonetheless because we know
the story behind it.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
