Dear Mert:
Thomas Whitney, b. 18 Mar 1795, Westminster, Worcester, MA, (Westm. VR, p.
100) son of Phineas and Elizabeth (Rand) Whitney, m. 13 Jul 1826 to Hannah
Preston in Washington Co., OH as his second wife. She was born 10 Oct 1805
in Luzerne Co., PA. Thomas had been married first to Artimacy Preston (whom
I assume to be a sister of Hannah) 20 Oct 1820, also in Washington Co., OH.
I don't have parents for the two Preston women, nor do I have sources for
their birth or marriage dates. The latter data came from the Whitney
Research Group website, where it had been submitted by another researcher who
didn't provide sources.
Thomas and Artimacy had only one son, as far as I know. He was Horace
Whitney, born 13 Mar 1822, presumably in Washington Co., OH, and died there
on 14 Sep 1823. His mother had preceded him in death by about two weeks,
dying on 1 Sep.
Thomas and Hannah had nine children that I know of, two -- Lafayette and
Mordecai, who were born in Washington Co., OH, and the remaining seven in
Delaware County, IN. In 1857, Phineas, b. 1834 (census) married Sarah A.
Murray, b. 5 Jun 1826 in Muncie, Delaware, IN, d. 20 Nov 1904, also in
Muncie, Delaware, IN. They had five children, whose names I can provide, two
with marriages.
Are you acquainted with the Whitney Research Group? You found our maillist.
I would send you to our website for further information, but it is currently
off line as the man who maintains it has had to change ISP's and with a high
speed connection to reestablish is going to be off line for perhaps another
week. As soon as it is up and running, you can get much of this from that
site. However, I have just spent a number of hours researching this family
(Thomas and Hannah and progeny, particularly the family of Mordecai, elder
brother to Phineas), and thus have some material, including source
documentation, that does not appear in the various databases on that website.
When the site gets back up on-line, it can be found at

If you have more specific questions, please feel free to write to me again
and I'll try to help.
Sincerely,
Allan E. Green
