Although my Whitney line is quite far removed and I had no thought of
attending a reunion on this family when I read the suggestions of a
meeting in the DC area I get excited.
I would certainly do my best to attend if it is in the VA suburbs,
mostly because I do so want to visit the DAR library and LOC. [but not
during the DAR convention]. I agree that summers in DC are miserable--we
lived for five years in Camp Springs--and added central
air-conditioning--which made indoors very pleasant. Unfortunately for
research opportunities, at that time I was chauffeur for ballet lessons,
boy scout meetings, scout leader, room mother and Sunday School teacher,
and "single" parent while my husband spent a year in SE Asia. (This was
also the time DC was in flames and unnecessary travel into the district
was not recommended.)
When we were in DC in 1997 (after an Annapolis reunion) my husband
asked me if I thought we had made a mistake when we picked California as
a retirement home. I had to agree that I thought we had, there are just
SO many things to do and see in that area.
As to meeting in Salt Lake--yes, the library is great--but I go there
for a week each May (for 12 years) so it doesn't offer me the special
attractions that the DC area does.
I might point out that many school systems are now operating on
year-round schedules so any time will conflict with parents of some
students. Scheduling a reunion during the Christmas Holiday season may
find certain research facilities closed and bad weather can interfere
with airline and travel.
