Dear Allan E. Green:
Thanks for looking into the data. Here's a quick answer to one or two of your questions -- yes, the data on Morgan Whitney came from Janice Sweet's records, and no, I haven't seen them myself, but the birthdate (and death date) of Herbert H. came from his burial record at Riverside Cemetery, Cleveland. I trust that data over the census data. (I have two obituaries coming in the mail for Herbert H. which may provide additional information.)
I've found a similar problem with city directories, by the way -- their information often does not tally with what is known from other sources. That happens, I suppose --
Bests,
Charlotte Pressler

Dear Charlotte:
I wish I could supply some easy answers for your questions, but your write-up raised some further quesitons in my mind.
Morgan M WHITNEY b.1842 NY appears in the subject above, yet the 1880 Census shows him to have been 43 years old at that time. This would put his birth sometime in 1837 or early 1838, wouldn't it? Is there some other source not cited that provides the 1842 birthdate? I realize that sometimes ages in the Census are not too reliable, but there is a similar problem with Herbert H., too. The Census shows him aged 20 at the census date in 1880, which would suggest a birthdate in 1860 or early 1861 rather than the August 23, 1862. Is there again another source for that latter date?
OK, I've gone to Ancestry and found what you posted and I assume you have been in touch with the Janice Sweet that provided the information about the parents of Morgan. What is this Hyde-Barkley FTW that is cited as a source? Have you been able to see it? Does IT have any sources cited? Hang on, I'm going to try the Census myself. About an hour later, I have yet to find a John Whitney in the 1850 NY Census with a Morgan in the house, but I've looked at only part of the list of 60+
John Whitneys to be found there.
I'll look again for a while tomorrow and let you know if I find anything. Have you tried the 1860 Ohio for Morgan?
Happy Hunting!
