Subject: Query The Whitney Ancestral Lineage

Dear List:

As a descendant of Thomas Whitney of Watertown, I have been reading
about his ancestors described in the works of Rixford and of Melville.

What stikes me most, other than for the marvelous historical information
given in Melville's work, is the fact that his description of the
ancestral line, per the Harleian manuscripts, stops far short of that of
Rixford; also, it differs in one important respect in that the Harleian
manuscripts Melville quotes cite an ancester, Baldwin by name, that
Rixford does not.

Has any of this ancestry been reconciled?

Thanks for your help!
