Its too late for many of us. Its been 2 or 3 years ago I brought this
up after finding
even some of my stories about family incorporated into others data
bases. I have never submitted anything to any of these places but I
find myself and my workings all over the web.
I contacted one party and asked how they were related to my line as
they had us in their data. The reply was that they had no idea but
hoped some day to find Great Uncle Thomas by using all these other data
bases.
I contacted another who had used one of my stories, he didn't reply but
his stuff disappeared right away.
Another had a big error where my Great Grandmother was concerned and I
contacted the party and they told me they were pretty sure they were
right even though they weren't related in any manner!
Can you stand one more? I found where a GGGGrandfather was buried at a
little town in
Wyoming. The town didn't exist then and neither did Wyoming it was
still Indian Territory.
Most of them just like to guess in order to be able to fill in
something I think.
Now they are making it harder to look at these other data bases so we
could contact the people. It just means there is a lot of
misinformation out there and you probably waste your money if you pay
these places for it.
I guess it doesn't matter as they probably wouldn't change it
I am happy to share what meager family things I have with other family
members and I am
grateful to all who have so unselfishly shared with me. But I don't
think its necessary to put it out on the web. We have a large family
and I have shared all I have in the shape of a family history book.
There are so many of them out there that I'm sure a few of those books
will survive and thus the family history will also survive.
