Kenosha Evening News Sept 29 1905
While drivng a rather spirited horse in the town of Somers,
M J Burli and Nellie Evans of Racine had narrow escapes from
being seriously if not fatally injured.
THe two young ladies had driven from Racine in the morning and when
near the Longwell crossing in the town of Somers, the horse became
frightened by a dog and ran away.
Alderman Geroge Herzog of Rachine and his wife were driving on the
same road and hearing the cries of the women looked around and saw the
runaway horse.
Herzog turned his horse into the roadside and leaped from his buggy to
stop the runaway horse when the buggy struck a log and was overturned
and the two ladies were thrown to the ground.
Mr and Mrs Herzog ran to the assistance of the young ladies and help
was summoned from farm houses.
Both ladies were cut and bruised and were taken to the farm home of
Harry Jones where their injuries were attended to and later they
returned to Racine.
