Hello everyone,
I feel like I have made a major breakthrough in my Wilbanks
research.
Today I was reviewing the 1860 Missouri census records. Of particular
interest was Randall Wilbanks, age 35, stone mason, Tennessee, residing
in St. Francis County, Missouri. I checked the Missouri map and
discovered
St. Francis Co., bordered Iron County where my husband's ancestor John
G. Willbanks was residing during the 1860 census. Next I checked the
names
of the children of Laban Wilbanks of Jackson County, Alabama. I noticed
that
he had a son Randolph living with him during the 1850 census. His age
is off
by 5 years, his place of birth is Alabama instead of Tenn, but he is
listed as
a stone mason, as is the Randall Wilbanks living in St. Francis County,
MO.,
during the 1860 census. I also noticed that Laban Sr., and his son
Laban Jr., were
also stone masons. This Randolph son of Laban Wilbanks does not appear
in the 1860 census of Jackson County, Alabama. Of course I was
concerned about the names
being different, Randall vs. Randolph, but thought that they were
probably the same.
Next I searched the Land Patents for Missouri on the internet and found
the
following records.

M04030-.223 Document #26183.
Randolph Wilbanks of Iron County, Missouri,
Date 9/10/59
land office Jackson
legal description E1/2, Sec 9, Township 33-N, Range 3-E, fract sect N,
5 principal Meridian,
320 acres in Iron County.

M03760-.368 Document #20141
John G. Willbanks of Madison County, Missouri,
land office Jackson, comments Add Cert #22556
Legal Description, SWNE, Sec 17, Township 33-N, Range 3-E, Fract. Sect.
N,
5th Principal Meridian.
320 acres in Iron County, Missouri.

So now I have John G. Wilbanks who lived in Madison County, MO during
the 1850
census, receiving a land patent in Iron County, Missouri in 1857, and
appearing
in the Iron County, MO census in 1860. I also have Randolph Wilbanks of

Iron County, MO receiving a land patent in 1859 in Iron County, MO and
residing in St. Francis County, MO. in the 1860 census.

It is possible that Randolph and John G. Wilbanks are brothers? I
believe so,
and now I have to prove it!

As I have mentioned in earlier letters, I am trying to prove that John
G. Wilbanks
is the son of Laban Wilbanks of Jackson County, Alabama. The only
reason
that I was searching Jackson Co, is my assumption that John's wife
Margaret
might be a "Wann." The Wanns and Wilbanks families are found in Jackson

County, Alabama, Madison County, Missouri, and Logan County, Arkansas.
So the two families seem to be migrating together. As for Laban
Wilbanks,
I have the following children:

Laban Wilbanks married 1st Jemima 2nd Hannah Rodden. (one of
John's daughters
married a Rodden.)
1. daughter born between 1820-1825 per 1830 census.
2. son born between 1825-1830 per 1830 census. (Could this be John
G.?)
3. Laban Jr. born abt 1828 Tenn. stone mason, (1850 census)
married 1 April 1855 Jackson Co. Alabama, Leoner Denson.
4. Randolph Wilbanks, born abt 1830 Alabama (1850 census) (not in 1860
census)
5. Sophia Wilbanks, born abt 1835 Alabama (1850 census)
married 5 July 1855, D.L. Bunch.
6. William Wilbanks born abt 1838 Alabama (1850 census)
married 28 March 1861, Jackson Co. Alabama.
Naoma Samples.
7. Elias Wilbanks, born abt 1842, Alabama (1850 census)
married 25 Sept 1870, Jackson Co., Alabama.
Neoma J. Samples.
8. Elwin, born abt 1844, Alabama (1850 census)

The marriage records are recorded on the Jackson County, Alabama
web site which is the only source I have for the moment. I will look
up the original records later. They are from Marriage Book A,
1859-1871.

Anyway, this is where I am at on my research. Is anyone in this group
working on
Laban Wilbanks, or Randolph Wilbanks? If so, I would love to hear from
you.
Does anyone have information that will help in my search? I will keep
everyone posted on my findings.

Sincerely,
Patricia Laird Howard
