Hello all,
Permit me to introduce myself. I am in Texas, near Houston, teaching Spanish in a local high school, but my real love is genealogy. (Teaching just pays better!) I was born in GA and have a lot of roots in Cherokee Co.
After I received the CHEROKEE CO., GA HERITAGE book, I pulled out a Wilbanks file I hadn't looked at in 4 years. Please understand that my main time to work with genealogy is during June and July. The only thing in it was an ancestor chart, hand-drawn, which showed the following: (There are obvious mistakes.) Arvilla Wilbanks b ca 1802: Wm Wilbanks (spouse Martha Jackson); Wm Wilbanks Sr. b 1746, SC 27 Aug ____' d 04____, Spartanburg, SC m Abarilla Cossett d before 1784; Richard Wilbanks 1790 pd W____, NC m Prescilla Hewet(?) Laws(?)" This was a copy of a bad copy I received from a relative in Cherokee Co. Obviously, it's supposition,
My ggg grandparents are proved to be Lemuel Green, (possibly son of Isham),and AvarillaGreen, possibly a Wilbanks from Union Co. area of SC.
I have been in contact with Gary Wilbanks (GA?) who sent me an abbreviated copy of Padget's Creek Baptist Church minutes--the lady may be Avey Wilbanks (not the one with the G). My Avarilla was sometimes spelled Ava Rilla and other ways in the census. Gary suggested that I particularly contact Robert M. Wilbanks. I did subscribe to Wilbanks-L last night. Gary has been very helpful and complimentary of RMW,
Any help appreciated. I'm descended also from Cline, Doss, Cagle and others in Cherokee Co., GA and will help anyone if I can. This "possibility"--a good one-- is my only Wilbanks connection so far.
Thanks, Sally Hewett
