Subject: Why AOL Users have been Removed from RootsWeb Lists
Date: Tue, 30 Sep 1997 14:06:55 -0400
To all subscribers to the RootsWeb Lists I maintain:
Here is why you AOL users are being removed by the automatic
software at RootsWeb. As you should know, after a pre-determined
number of "bounces" from a receiving server, the user's name is
removed from the RootsWeb subscription list.
Here is exactly what I receive back for each bounce from AOL:
is temporarily unavailable while we upgrade our system
(The XXXXXXX is the user's address.)
This has been going on for almost 3 weeks now. I receive dozens,
even hundreds, of these every day from AOL. So please don't blame
RootsWeb for removing you. The SmartList software is just doing
what it is programmed to do. Blame AOL for continuing to reject
email to its users. If enough of you were to threaten to quit AOL,
maybe they would get things right there. Or, you could always drop
AOL and get a dependable server. Your choice.
