Please bear with me while I lead you to the Williams information!!
In a search for information on our great grandfather, William G. McWilliams,
born Feb. 1835 in New Jersey, my sister and I have found that he had four
children from a previous marriage. (We descend from his second marriage.) His
first wife was Arabella (aka Belle, Bella) Anthony from unknown town in
Pennsylvania. They had the following children:
Woodhull B. born Nov. 1853 in NJ
John born @ 1858
Mary born Sept. 1859
Georganna born Nov. 1862.

In William McWilliams' obituary, (April 1902) it says that Woodhull was
living in Easton, PA and Mary (McWilliams) Cheeseman was living in West
Easton, PA. We were able to locate Mary and her husband Thomas in the 1900
West Easton Census but could not find Woodhull in the Easton census. And
every time we would perform a search in any genealogy related database for
Woodhull, we ALWAYS searched for McWilliams because that was his last name.
We even found him listed in the Monroe County Historical Society as Woodhull
McWilliams married to Amelia/Aurelia (sp?) R. DeWight from Tobyhanna, PA on
July 4, 1872.
So imagine our surprise when my sister happened upon the 1900 Easton Census
and found a Woodhull B. "Williams" from New Jersey. Living with him were his
wife
"Ruth" (R.) A. (Amelia/Aurelia) and they were married for 27 years. Also
listed with them were five of their six living children:
Charles W. Williams(23) born March 1877
Edith M.Williams(16) born Feb 1884
James A. Williams(12) born July 1888
Ernest D. Williams(9) born Sept. 1890
Ruth E.Williams(8) born July 1892
At first we thought it was an error. But then we started searching for
Woodhull B. Williams and he popped up in an 1910 PA Census Miracode index
with Ruth and Ruth E.
So from McWilliams to Williams.........twice?
We now think he changed his name. Why? Who knows! So then we did a quick
search in the 1900 Census for Easton and found what may be Ernest and
James......the ages match but we can't be 100% sure.
If anyone out there may stem from any of Woodhull's children.........Please
contact us so we may sort thru this. I know it might be disheartening to know
that the last name was originally McWilliams but what we are interested in is
knowing the "genealogy particulars" like places of birth, marriage dates,
children and so on. We are just hoping that there is someone out there who is
searching this particular "Williams" line also. Thanks for taking the time to
read!
