I think you've hit the nail right on the head. We all get to brick walls
where we just can't seem to get any further. When you do come to a
downloaded file as either a GEDCOM or their own website, and it includes
some of the info that you've been looking for, it feels like you've struck
gold. There are many times when you just don't have any idea what direction
to take on a particular ancestor and finding even a smidgen of info, no
matter how small can head you in the right direction. You don't necessarily
have to take that info as gospel, but it's there for you to follow up
yourself and to get the documented proof that you need. There are lots of
people without the finances to do major researching and documentation, so I
think it's wonderful when there are others out there willing to share what
they have found. If I see a person asking for assistance in locating
someone, and I happen to have access to that info, or even if I have a book,
or database access with that info, I try to help out.
I know that some people are upset when others use their work without their
permission. I agree that permission should be received before putting
something online which you received from others. But you must understand
that if you are willing to supply the info in the first place, that it is
going to be used in some form. That was the purpose in having these
mailing lists, and genealogy sites so that the info can be shared. It is
also up to each researcher to verify as much info as possible. And
sometimes the most verifiable place can be from an online source.

request at a time that means 2 to 3 months for each wrong lead depending on
the archives. Also a reseach fee. There are me and others that depend on so
many of you wonderful people that share and do look ups for us and are so
thankfull for the wonderful people that share with us so willingly. For
reasons I won't go into my chances of getting back to MO., VA., TN., KY.,
ILL., GA., are next to none.

sites. This is why we are so greatful to those that help and share. How many
of us have family that will treasure our reseach when we are gone. How many
of us if our house burnt down tomarrow has so freely shared that they could
put this on some lists and people would start to send all these wonderful
things you have shared. The best research is good if you make sure it out
lives you and by doing you have to share with all you can.
