"Martin Van Buren Wilson, 93, only remaining Civil war veteran at Sidney and
oldest resident of this community, died at 8:25 a.m. Wednesday at his home in
the northwest edge of town.
Mr. Wilson had been ill for the past two weeks with gall bladder trouble and
had been in a critical condition for several days.
The deceased, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Wilson, was born Jan. 29,
1844, on a farm three and one-half miles northeast of here in a log cabin.
Later his family moved to a farm one and one half miles southeast of town.
Mr. Wilson enlisted in Company K, 150th Illinois infantry and served one year
during the Civil war. On March 4, 1866, he was united in marriage with Lucy
Lapsleyof Greenville, Indiana county, Pa., and they began housekeeping on a
farm near here. Several years later they moved to town and settled in the
place where Mr. Wilson resided at the time of his death, having lived there
continuously for the past 56 years with the exception of seven years spent in
Buffalo, N.Y.
Mrs. Wilson died July 5, 1934, at the age of 88.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. W.F. Temple of Fairmount, Mrs. Clara Hess
and Mrs. Leroy Mansfield, both of Sidney; one son, Fletcher Wilson, Sidney;
two grandchildren, O.W.Mansfield, San Angelo, Tex., Vera Hess of Sidney who is
superintendent of home economics at the high school at Ishpleming, Mich.; two
great grandchildren, Robert Wilson Mansfield and Ruth Mansfield, both of San
Angelo; and three half-sisters, Mrs. Emma Slater, Columbus, O., Mrs. William
Green of Catlin, and Mrs. E. W. Gasser of Urbana.
For many years, Mr. Wilson worked in the livestock shipping business. He was a
member of the Sidney Presbyterian church and held a life membership in the
Blue lodge 347 A. F. and A. M. Mr. Wilson's father lived to be 103 years of
age."

I believe that this indiviudal is the brother of my great grandmother,
Caroline Elizabeth Wilson of IL, previously posted on the Wilson-L.
Unfortunately, the person that lovingly put together a family scrapbook of
Wilson, Kearns, and other family names did not note that anywhere in this
book. Perhaps someone can identify with this family and contact me. I would
be happy to copy and send to anyone on request.

I will add on additional Wilson's as time allows.
